DOOM Review

Well first of all, and I'm saying this with real relief, Doom is the best video game-turned-movie ever made ever. And it is due to its original material. Doom is a very well known FPS (First Person Shooter) game. It had it all, awesome graphics, peerless gameplay, and exceeding fear, Doom was a major hit in the 90's. Last year, it got sort of a remake with (MUCH) better graphics called Doom 3. The game was also a success and elevated fan's anxiety towards a movie.

OK, now about the movie. The story deals around a research facility in Mars(a portal to Mars called 'arc' was discovered deep in Earth in 2126 - ridiculous, i know, but i didnt write story!) in the year 2146 that has been taken over by all sort of creatures, or monsters to be more precise. Special Marines are sent there on a mission to regain the station and wipe out the beasts. Ohh.. Gory..

The cast is great, with Karl Urban (Eomer in LotR) playing John 'Reaper' Grimm, a problematic, one-man-army soldier, and The Rock as Sarge (his character's name was never mentioned in the movie - mimicking the game where the main character is also nameless), a butch, classic bossy leader, with a hunger for blood and gore.

Plus, the gorgeous Rosamund Pike (the HOT innocent/kinky-looking girl from the last Bond movie) is a nice addition, playing the role of Samantha Grimm.

The plot develops really really slowly, giving the impression its a boring movie, but the pace picks up significantly near the end. The First Person Perspective Segment towards the movie's ending is FRIGGIN AWESOME!! Oh and the crew did a memorable job recreating the DOOM world. The atmosphere of the movie is certainly in tune with the game's. Outstanding.

2005 is really the first year where video game fans can sigh in relief and breath safely, because Doom is brainless, entertaining, seat wrecking fun. Doom is a ray of sunlight, which is actually ironic. The one dark video game-movie is the light at the end of the tunnel for video game fans.

My Verdict - 8 out of 10

Yup Quake 4 is out already.. This time its focused more on the single player part compared to Quake 3. Gameplay is fun, faster than Doom3. I think its way better than Doom3, mostly because Doom3 was a bit too linear gameplay-wise. Quake 4 has more variety in its gameplay, tho it still cant beat Half-Life 2

I don't think the slow pace was boring la. It added to the suspense ;) was curious as to why there were monsters.

I don't agree which yau chuan. The perspective thingy at the end was cool!!

Nice movie.
